Position Description:

Overall roles and responsibilities 

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the Field Mechanical Engineer is responsible for assembling and testing R&D parts and systems, troubleshooting components and systems, attending field operations and installations, reviewing and dispositioning nonconformant or damaged parts. 

Essential functions

  • Continually evaluate existing products and the development of new products to meet new or changing market and/or company requirements 
  • Anticipate potential problems and proactively solve complex problems through creative thinking, using internal and external resources 
  • Assist in the investigation of field failures and evaluates root causes and recommend corrective actions 
  • Assist with RCA (Root Cause Analysis) and FPR (Field Performance Report) investigations 
  • Provide reports to senior levels of management on progress of assigned projects 
  • Review industry literature and keep abreast of market product trends and technology 
  • Identify and recommend processes for design improvement and innovation 

Supervisory Responsibility 

This position has no supervisory responsibilities. 

Work Environment 

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment.

The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. 

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work 

This is a full-time position, and hours of work and days are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. 

Travel 

Some travel may be required to customer sites or other field locations as needed. 

Qualifications and Education Requirements 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology from a 4-year college or university. 
  • Knowledge and use of ANSI, ASME and ISO Drafting Techniques and Geometric Tolerance; API/ISO Product Requirements; Basic Stress Analysis; Development and Control of Design Documentation; Product Design; and Finite Element Analysis. 
  • Specialized (Advanced) Computer Skills, Highly Advanced Language Skills, Highly Advanced Mathematical Skills and Highly Advanced Reasoning Ability. 

Preferred Skills 

SolidWorks, AutoCAD and MathCad experience strongly desired.
